It's Giveaway and Sizzix hop Thursday. Today's project is a pop up gift card greeting card inspired by the book 1,000 More Greetings: Creative Correspondence for All Occasions which also happens to be the book you are entered to win if you leave a comment here by midnight ET December 9, 2010.
Here is the inside of the pop up "for you" gift card I made with the Sizzix die cut.
I started out by assembling the pop up card first to see how it worked...pretty cool I must say. Then I decided after flipping through 1,000 More Greetings: Creative Correspondence for All Occasions I wanted to add a simple large image, so off to the scrapbook paper stash.
I found a full page image that I trimmed down to leave a bit of the black card stock showing around the parameter. I then reattached the pop up gift card part.
I added the Tim Holtz deer on the inside and outside cover of the card. The outside deer were die cut from a recycled Christmas card from last year. I liked it because it was really random and had glitter on it.
Don't forget to leave a comment and answer the question:
What do you do with your Christmas cards? Recycle them? Save them?
Leave your answer to be entered to win a copy of 1,000 More Greetings: Creative Correspondence for All Occasions.
Oh, and a final tidbit: If you save your Christmas and other holiday cards and looking for a way to store them in a removable bound book, check out the Card Album.

What do I do with old Christmas cards? Save!
I have years' worth of cards, stacked up in back of my closet.
Recently, I used about 60 -- punched circles and stars and glued them to string for a garland.
I'm sure that "1000 More Greetings" would inspire and amaze. Your single example is cool!

Just the push I needed for that Sizzix die (much quicker and easier than doing it manually! I love your card, and your idea. I save my cards - the homemade ones stay as they are. Store bought ones are cut up (as you did with the deer), or punched into tags and other embellisments for future projects! You know us crafters - we are the best recyclers in the world!

so far I save ALL my cards, not only Christmas cards. For this year I'm thinking of binding all of them together, to save them from being tucked away in a box.

I recently saw a garland on TV that was made out of old cards strung together with ribbon. I want to make one when I take my card display down at the end of this year.

I save all my Christmas cards and actually make a scrapbook page since most of the cards I receive have photos on them. Great idea for the gift card holder!

I love the layout of this card and that you used recycled cards to die cut the reindeer- I will have to think about saving this years cards to make something for next year- thanks for the tip

We had the same idea! I put a prancing reindeer on my project this week, too! I absolutely love your card, especially the way the GCH is integrated into your background scene and tucked to the side to allow full view of the tree. I love asymmetrical cards like this. Brilliant! Using recycled holiday cards is brilliant, too. Thank you for using my die!

Oh I love those reindeer and thanks for the info on the book too.

I always save and recycle Christmas cards in other craft projects. Of course, the few that I receive hand made are not recycled, but placed in my saved cards album for future inspiration. I would love to win this book!

Great card.
I like to recycle as many Christmas cards as I can. I use various punches to make gift tags for the following year.

I save certain cards and others, I recycle and incorporate them in more updated cards.

I save most cards for memories and recycling.

I save any handmade cards I receive indefinitely - commercial cards I keep for a few years and then give them (well, the fronts) to a local daycare for the kids to use.
Looks like a very cool book! Your project turned out great - I've put that die on my Christmas list. Thanks for the chance at the book!

I usually save my cards at least until the next holiday season rolls around; that way I can check that I have the updated addresses, new baby names, etc.
Then, when done, I either recycle them or donate to a nursing home.
Your handmade card idea looks really cool, nicely done!
Peace, Judi

i save all the cards we get. have a whole box of them that i go through to look for ideas for embellies to add to the cards i am making or to journal pages. i love pop-up cards. have tried some fairly complex ones. they take a lot of time but are so cool. the die would definitely make it faster.

I am really new to stamping (about 6 months) and haven't been saving previous cards (gasp!) Will start to now and will probably use for embellishments or recycle the cards. Thanks for the opportunity to win the book.

I really like how you set the die off-centered inside the card. I hadn't thought of that. Very nice.
And to answer the question about what I do with my old cards: I get mostly photo cards that I save so I am going to make Twist Cube 3D Christmas ornaments this year.

This is very clever! I love that you've used old Christmas cards. I have way to many of them since I can't seem to throw them away, and of all the suggestions that have been made to me, this is the only use so far that I'd actually put them to! And I *LOVE* pop-ups of all kinds, so I'm head-over-heels for this!!

Great card design, love how this turned out! - I save everything... cards included. but wouldn't it be cool to find a use for a paper quilt.. I'd make that!

I save all cards. I have my mother scrapbook of cards from the 1929 to 2005.I make ATC cards from some of them. I was planning to buy a sizzer machine after Christmas, with gift cards. I love pop-up cards. I will make this card whe I get my machine.
