My Crafty Chica Empowerment Guardian Entry and Glittering Tip

Here she is:

Our Lady of Plaidbunny, The Guardian of Scissors and Protector of Safe Cutting.

Empowerment_guardian_stefanie_girar

I just so happen to have this wood coffin in my Halloween decorations and I thought it would make an excellent grotto for Our Lady of Plaidbunny. I lined it with scrapbook paper and decorated it with found objects, pom poms and of course more glitter!

You may be wondering how I got those great little glitter bunnies on Our Lady of Plaidbunny. Well let me tell you:

First I used a paper punch to punch out a bunch of bunnies from paper (in a coordinating color to my Crafty Chica Glitter-Bollywood Blue.

I then rolled a tube of Scotch tape with the sticky side out and placed it into a Snappy Tray. I then spread a bit of white glue onto each paper bunny and stuck it on the sticky tape tube.

I sprinkled the glitter onto the bunnies and allowed to dry. Then I poured the excess glitter back into the container.

The bunnies were ready to then glue onto Our Lady of Plaidbunny. I just love how the black (Be Bop Black) glitter has bits of green in it that pick up the green in the plaid fabric

Here is mine in progress:

My process:

Think of all the things I love and inspire me.

The first being my love of plaid!

So I covered the "cloak" area of the guardian with some cool lime and black plaid fabric.

I have a lot more work (and glitter) to go but I think the plaid is a good start!

If you need a bit of inspiration for your guardian try grabbing a copy of her wonderful book, it will surely get your creative glittery juices flowing, it always works for me!

See that cool little figure in the Crafty Chica's hand? It's a Crafty Chica bobble head! Would you like one of your very own??? I know you do!!! Well all you need to do it post a comment here about "GLITTER"

Strangest thing you've glittered, think should be glittered, you get my drift???

Leave a comment by August 25th and we will randomly pick a winner to receive a copy of The Crafty Chica Collection
Beautiful Ideas for Crafts, Home Decorations and Shrines from the Queen of Latina Style
and a Crafty Chica Bobble head!

Here is my entry:

Glitter_rock_stefanie_girard

I simply rubbed on some white glue with my finger and sprinkled glitter onto the rock (over a paper plate) and let dry. I then shook off the excess glitter. I then flipped over the rock and spread some more glue around the bottom edge (not on the direct bottom though) and sprinkled more glitter on. Let dry, tapped off excess and there you have it!

I think doing weird things to rocks is quickly becoming my new "thing"

The Crafty Chica spreads the glitter love in front of the Ellen Show

G12
Yesterday we spread the glitter love in front of NBC Studios with the Crafty Chica leading us.

G13

Cathie Filian producer at Two Bees and a Pea and co-host of DIY's  Creative Juice supported the glitter goodness with a sign "Glitter is not Litter"

G11

Jenny Ryan of Craftzine.com was in full glitter love with her heart shaped sunglasses.
G10

Linda (Lindy) Whisenant of Duncan Enterprises, makers of wonderful glitter,(left) and KB VanHorn of www.kokoleo.com (with her little one donning a sunburst glitter hat were getting passers by to honk for glitter.

G9

G6

Erika of My Imaginary Boyfriend really knew how to get her sparkle on-safely!

G7
This was one of my favorite signs. Crafters are clever with glitter and words!

Nichole of L.A. Craft Mafia and www.Mucha-Muchacha.com was feeling the glittery love! (and another little baby was there, babies love glitter too doncha know!
G5

The girls, and boy (yes boys like glitter too!) were out in full support.

G4

G2

We certainly made quite a site! That's me on the far right in my I "heart" glitter jacket.

Yes Kit, of www.kitsglass.net on the far left has a glitter hamburger on her shirt!

G1

The construction guys across the street weren't quite sure what to make of us!

G8

But the camera guy from the Ellen show did, he filmed us!

G3

If you have a good glitter story leave it in the comments section to share with all us glitter lovers!

Glitter Lovers Unite!-The Crafty Chica Defends Glitter

Kathy Cano-Murillo, author of
The Crafty Chica Collection: Beautiful Ideas for Crafts, Home Decorations and Shrines from the Queen of Latina Style
is a self proclaimed "sparkleholic" and is taking a stand!

Crafty_chica_cover

Kathy's Press Release:

“Safe Sparkle” Rally Outside the Ellen DeGeneres Burbank Studio

Fresno, Calif. (March 26, 2008) Due to Ellen DeGeneres’ public attempts to ban glitter, Kathy Cano-Murillo, the Crafty Chica, is staging a rally outside Ellen’s Burbank studio on April 8 to spread the message of practicing “safe sparkle”.

The “Safe Sparkle” rally is Kathy’s way of educating Ellen and her viewers on loose glitter alternatives that don’t leave behind the pesky flakes that the beloved TV host has come to hate. Kathy, a glitteraholic, believes glitter adds light and beauty to our troubled world and thinks Ellen would agree - if only loose glitter weren’t so messy!

At the rally, Kathy will be demonstrating various “safe sparkle" glitter applications, so Ellen’s fans can still share the sparkle - but not in a way that will annoy the hostess-with-the-mostess.

WHAT: Safe Sparkle Glitter Rally
WHEN: Tuesday, April 8, 2008.
TIME: Noon to ???
WHERE: NBC Studios, 3000 West Alameda Avenue in Burbank, Calif.
WHO: Anyone who wants to help Ellen find her inner glitter! All are welcome!

The rally is expected to draw a large crowd of supporters, including:

- Mark Montano (TLC Network host, and author of The Big Ass Book of Crafts
- Jenny Ryan (writer and blogger for Craft: magazine and founder of Felt Club)
- Cathie Filian (co-host of Creative Juice on the DIY Network)
- and members of the Los Angeles Craft Mafia, the San Diego North Park Craft Mafia - all gathering to spread the message of glitter tolerance and most importantly, “safe sparkle”.
-----------------------------------
In support of the glitter rally I felt the need to dress for the event and what better way is to get my glitter on!

I decided I wanted to embellish a jacket with the simple and direct message- I "heart" glitter.

Thinking back to the way cool font provided in the back of

Say It With Stitches
New Embroidery Designs for Letters and Words

Say_it_with_stitches_cover

(Click here to see another great project done with these letters!)

I scanned in the letters and enlarged them a bit.

Cut out the ones I needed. I only cut one out of each letter and roughly laid them out on the back of the jacket. I free-formed a heart out of glitter felt.

Glitter1

I flipped over each letter and traced it onto white felt. I used an air disappearing pen but you could use anything really as long as you were working on the back side. A tip on this is to drag the marker at an angle so the marker point drags less on the fibers of the felt.

Glitter2

After I had all the letters cut out and placed where I wanted them I glued them down. Another tip I have for you is to use a scrap of felt to mark the placement before lifting the letter up to apply glue to the back.

Glitter3

Glitter4

I then outlined all the letters and heart with GLITTER!!

Glitter5

So I have my outfit ready to spread the glittery-goodness next Tuesday!

And on another glittery note this is a fun Blog I just discovered:

The Crafty Chica, her Peeps and some Jewelry Made with her new Charms

Crafty_chica_book_and_bobblehead

Kathy Cano-Murillo was all over CHA-she is one Crafty Chica! She should use that, oh wait she does!

That's her super colorful and wonderful book The Crafty Chic Collection on the left and are you wondering what she's holding on the right? Why it's a bobble head! Yes, they made Crafty Chica bobble heads. Your know you you've made it when they make a bobble head of you! How fun.

Crafty_chica_angela_traci

Crafters and artists love to hang with each other. Here are a bunch of crafty peeps posing for the camera in between book signings.

On the left of course is the Crafty Chica herself, Author of the new book Mixed Emulsions, Angela Cartwright, and Traci Bautista, author of Collage Unleashed.

Crafty_chica_and_husband_in_duncan

Behind every good crafter, is an amazing husband. Kathy's husband was wonderful helping her at the Duncan booth with keeping the glitter, paint and charms in order. And speaking of charms, part of the new line of Crafty Chica crafting goodies that will be out in June 2008 from Duncan are these amazing little charms. I fell in love with them and whipped up these two necklaces.

Necklace_crafty_chica_color_charms

This choker uses three square color charms linked in between silver beads.

Necklace_white_crafty_chica_charms

This necklace I used three round white black and white charms and links in a variety of sizes.

To get the charm to hang in the center of the large focal link, I wrapped a piece of wire around the link in between where the ends of the necklace attached to the large focal link.

To see a project from The Crafty Chica Collection  and more CHA photos pop on over to Kathy's Blog.

and Angel's too!
