So, my friend had this very sad yet cool rolling stool that just called to me for some cushy-love.
Not wanting to do the same old thing I grabbed my copy of

Home Décor Projects for the Fabric Obsessed

and started flipping through to find some fabulous inspiration.
This cool stool's upholstery is embellished with color accents on a black and white print. In the book it is done with embroidery but I had an idea of another way.
First I needed to cut a base to upholster the fabric to and I did it way old school. The classic finger/string/pencil trick. This piece of wood wasn't going to show so I didn't need it to be perfect.
I then cut a whole bunch of layers of batting the same size as the wood circle and a couple a bit bigger to smooth over the edge. Not too much though 'cause I didn't want it to be too "poofy."
I then fussy cut my fabric so that the face would be centered.
I stapled away and this is what it looked like pre-accented.
I then used a Pentel Sunburst Metallic silver gel pen to accent the fabric where there would naturally be highlights in the design. They're subtle but I think they added just a nice touch. (click on photo to enlarge)
Much better, stylish and comfy!
Look around and see what you have that could be spruced up with a bit of fabric. And while you're at it add your special touch to the fabric as well!
