In yesterday's post I shared with you a rolled rosette flower from
Becky Hanson's
Easy SINGER Style™ Quick and Easy Sewing with Your Serger
and I said that I would be sharing with you something that I whipped up on my serger today and challenged you to guess what I'd be serging.
Didja guess???
No, probably not.
In honor of my brand new book (I just received my preview copy...yippee!):
Sweater Surgery: How to Make New Things with Old Sweaters
By yours truly
I made an upcycled ruffle scarf with serged edges from a felted sweater!
Posing in this yummy goodness is my friend Maria's daughter, Ariel. She was such a good sport while her mom took pictures!
Materials:
A felted sweater that looks good on both the inside and outside
A contrasting standard serger thread -1 spool
2 spools extra thick woolly nylon
Thread for sewing machine matching the sweater
Optional:
Tailor's chalk
Directions:
Cut a long curly strip back and forth out of the sweater between 2 1/2 -3 inches wide.
The tighter the curves the curlier it will be.
If you don't feel like "winging it" sketch out the path with tailors chalk
If you end up working your way into a dead end. Start a new path and stitch the sections together.
Cut the ends into single points.
Serge the sides with a wide rolled hem.
Stretch while serging to get even more of a ruffled edge.
Give it a try! If you do send a link to a picture-I would just love to see.

Wow....what a treasure your blog is! I always wondered how to make that scarf and the roses :) Too bad I don't have a surger (I don't think it will work without one) I am glad I found your blog.
