I can personally testify to having a hard time picking the right fabrics.

Here are 3 blocks I did in a similar pattern.

The one on the left worked pretty well, the one in the center worked best, and the one on the right was a major flop! The prints were too varied and big. I learned a lot about fabric prints and values making just these three blocks.

Thanks for showing the examples of your blocks - even the one that didn't work. Sometimes I am scared to just jump in there and try something out, but even if it doesn't work, if we learn something from it, then it was a valuable experience!
