I love t-shirts. I can't throw one away to save my life. So this book:
Fashion T-Shirts
Easy-Sew Projects for Fun Fashion
by
Lorine Mason
really jumped out at me.
It is packed full of clever ways to transform a T-shirt into crafty fashions!
A plain T-shirt is a blank canvas just waiting to be dressed up. Fashion T-Shirts is about transforming a T into a personal fashion statement with easy sewing and crafting. The 25 projects both alter and embellish a basic, inexpensive T-shirt. The embellishing includes simple embroidery, crochet, painting, stamping, buttons, fringes, tassels, rhinestones, and beads. The altering involves cutting, reconstructing, and simple sewing to change the structure of the garment. Projects included are for women or kids and are made with T-shirts of all colors. There will be lots and lots of original, clever details. Stylish, fashionable and fun, this is the book for wearable that we woman can really wear. Easy, clear, step-by-step instructions with how-to photos and projects inherently easier than regular fashion sewing because each starts with a ready-made T-shirt (no fitting, no patterns).
I never really thought about t-shirts being used in jewelry making so when I turned the page of Fashion T-Shirts and saw this great necklace-It really got my brain rolling in a new direction.
So armed (pun intended) with a bunch of sleeves that I had cut off of some big T-shirts, and some various bits of old jewelry I loved, but hadn't made anything with yet, I came up with these cuffs and choker.
This cuff is made using one of those old scarf sliders. I loved the heart in heart design and was racking my brain on how I could incorporate it into a new jewelry piece 'cause lord knows I'm not a fabric neck scarf kinda girl. Knitted ones yes, fabric no.
This cuff used a smaller diameter sleeve and a clip on earring.
They are simply made by cutting the sleeve so that it forms a tube. Then pinch the tube in the center and secure it with whatever you want to feature. and fold the two loops formed back next to each other.
This would work great with a standard pin or broach as well.
This pendant was pretty chunky and I didn't have a big enough chain to do it justice, so a strip of T-shirt really did the trick!
I think I've decided that just about anything can be crafted with anything!
Oh, this book looks perfect. I have so many t-shirts that I should do something with. And I love the necklace idea.
