I think one of my personal favorite projects is this:
I can totally see wearing this on New Year's Eve! If you need the full directions grab yourself a copy of Fashion Trims: Customize and Create Clothes and Accessories
I got inspired to make something with trims for Christmas while flipping through Fashion Trims:
Customize and Create Clothes and Accessories
This is what I came up with. A cute little Christmas tree! It was so easy.
I started with a Styrofoam cone and two shades of lace scalloped trim. Holding both trims together and starting from the bottom I wrapped the cone.
I stuck a straight pin at the top to secure the ends.
Can you tell what I used for the trunk? Yup, that's just an old wooden spool of brown thread. I thought it kept with the "sewing supply theme" of this tree.

Today's question (since I am already thinking about New Years Eve):
7. What are your crafting resolutions for 2009?
My
Answer: Organize, organize, organize! Last year's resolution was to try to make something every day, and I think I do pretty much. But I do find I am not the best at cleaning up yesterday's supplies and getting them put back in the right spot which makes finding them again and having a nice clean work area to start a new project not happen.
Be sure to read the comments of others, maybe you can pick one up a good idea that will make crafting in the new year even better and more productive!
And be sure to sign up for our Electronic Newsletter, (top right)
A hot new one will be out the end of this week….filled with last minute holiday ideas you won't want to miss!
My NRR would be to try and use all of the supplies I have bought for projects I am too scared to attempt - I think up lots of things - just doing them is the hard part ;)As with life I tend to stick to the known and trusted.
Have a lovely day

Thanks for all the great ideas & encouragement. I plan to do more new crafts and not just read about them. Do,Do,Do....new motto for a New Year.

7. My New Year's Resolution (since I spent 2008 organizing) is to set aside even 15 minutes EVERY DAY just to get in the studio and do something creative, even if it's just experimenting with paints or fabrics...even if it's just smearing paint on a journal page. It's something that I've let go way too long and I'm beginning to lose my creativity with new materials and I have a pile of UFOs sitting around waiting for me to spend time with them. TIME...it's all about time, people!

Love that little tree! Too cute.. I plan to dress all the dolls I purchased from an estate. Many have clothes that are ill fitting and most have no shoes. I guess my BIG task will be learning to make high heeled shoes for the teen type dolls.

My resolution is to not join any swaps or round robins this year. Instead, I intend to do only art that comes from my own needs and desires in an effort to discover what it is my art is trying to say.

My New Year's crafting resolution is to use up some of the "stuff" I keep buying before I buy more! I am overflowing!

My resolution is to make more time for crafting in general and to complete all those unfinished projects specifically. Once I can see that something is going to turn out as I envisioned it, I tend to lose interest in those last little touches. I do OK when it's a gift, but otherwise, I'm just one big ball of great ideas half done.

2009 - here I come. I am going to give myself permission to explore new artforms and experiment with different techniques. I want to break through all my self imposed boundaries and find out where my art will take me.
