By
Kanako Yaguchi
Paper artists, papercrafters, cardmakers, collage artists, and scrapbookers are always looking for unique and exciting ways to embellish and enhance their work. The Art of Decorative Paper Stencils 2 provides crafters with a range of instruction and inspiration to create beautiful stencils inspired by your travels. Paper stencil art is a traditional craft with a long history in Japan.
Kanako Yaguchi, a successful paper stencil artist, bases her new techniques on the classic methods, bringing this ancient art to a modern audience. The Art of Decorative Paper Stencils 2 includes images inspired by the author's travels to Japan, the United States, Jamaica, Czech Republic, Germany, and Austria. Each project includes detailed and illustrated step-by-step instructions. There are also instructions and ideas for attractive home decor projects that reflect your travels.
Kanako graduated from the Department of Design at Joshibi University of Art and Design, Japan. Her other publications include The Art of Decorative Paper Stencils (Quarry Books) and The Book of Decorative Paper Stencils for Adults (PHP Institute, available only in Japanese).
I love this paper stencil and when I saw what Kanako's inspiration was, the vintage bowl, I just giggled because I have those bowls!
This mobile made from stencils and circles of paper is so whimsical and pretty.

Have a lovely weekend.
I plan to make art when I travel, but then that never goes as planned because I get so busy and sidetracked. I'm a photographer, so I do "make art" by photographing what I see.

I tend to be too busy snapping photographs too, but am always thinking about how I'll use them when I get back home. So even though I don't actually produce the art/craft, the ideas are already brewing.

I do tend to make something wherever I am. It started when my kids were little and I'd have a long waiting periods between dropping them and picking them up from activities. I parcel larger projects into components that are easily packable, or bring purse-sized books that I'm working on, find a comfortable chair, and hopefully a table, and get to work!

I take mini hand-stitch projects when I travel. There is always a minute or two to do a bit.
I'm fear I'm not able to be like Rice Freeman Zachery who can stitch as a passenger on long car rides. I suspect I'd start to feel car sick after a while.
When I travel now, I always look out for thrift/charity shops, haberdashers and fabric shops. If there is a jewelery or art shop that is a bonus.
Who knows what you can discover? Whee!

i don't craft while i travel, but where we usually go, we are lucky enough to have a friend that stamps. we bring our stuff and she share her's making for a wonderful visit. also, i usually collect stuff. i go to my old haunts - the thrift stores - while there. if we are going to a new place, we track down points of interest, like quilt stores and stamp/scrap stores. it is certainly difficult to bring alot to do if traveling by plane, but this is the place to read about the things i like to make.

I don't make craft when I travel but this is a great idea! I will start to think about some nice things to make on my next vacation.
Thanks a lot!

I travel full time in a motorhome so I sure do crafts and stamp while traveling. The poor motorhome stuffed with stamping stuff and goods. Thankfully I have a great husband that puts up with all of my stuff everywhere. It is great to see stamp stores and artsy places in the new places we visit.

Having just come back from a trip I can answer this. I took hundreds of photos. Some of these with ideas in mind - most just to record happenings. I also read a lot of magazines and jotted notes on ideas to get my creative juices flowing once I got back home.

I think I put more thought and planning into what art supplies I'll bring when I travel than I do into what clothes I need to bring!
When the family goes the cottage the week, maybe half the car trunk is craft materials for me and my daughters. A plane trip has to be more selective and some things ride in checked baggage.
Travel with different routines and events just make the ideas flow!

I always have at least a project in my bag everytime I step out of my house, whether on a short or long trip or to whatever place. Usually it is a tatting project (so it is just a small ball of thread, 2 shuttles, and a Swiss card) , but lately, I'm into Chinese paper cutting (so an additional pair of small scissors and a penknife).
