New word, well for me and maybe you? Portmanteau: A new word created by sticking together parts of two preexisting words, whose meaning is basically a blend of the two original words. A well-known portmanteau is spork, which is a combination of spoon and fork.
This is day 233 of tips and ideas from the book 365: A Daily Creativity Journal: Make Something Every Day and Change Your Life!.
Can I tell you how much I LOVE learning new words and not only that, a new word about words!!!
Words and type are so much fun to play with. Here is a page from 45th Publication Design Annual that just rocks! (Yeah it's the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Check out how the "O"s have been dropped to form the year '00 for the Dec 24, 1999-Jan 7, 2000 cover.
So I ask you, "Got a good portmanteau?" Please share!!!!
One of my faves is "Chillax:" Chill and relax.
And one that maybe isn't the nicest, but when you live in a big destination town you get a lot of: "tourons:" tourist and moron. It's not like I say it out loud, and hey, I think we've all seen an out-of-towner do something not so brilliant, right?
Want more portmanteaus? Pop on over to this list of portmanteaus to spark your creativity or help you come up with one of your own! Then design something with it. Maybe have the letters pop out to do something else like the cover art from 45th Publication Design Annual.

The concept of Noah Scalin’s "365 method" is simple but inspired: Choose a theme or medium, then make something every day for a year. Noah made 365 skull-themed projects... now he invites you to choose your obsession and get creative! The book offers 365 project prompts to kick start your creativity, plus plenty of room for journaling, sketching, and jotting down ideas. Learn how to choose your subject and document your work, and see examples from other artists and crafters who took the 365 challenge. In addition, master new techniques to incorporate into your projects, including quilling, clay-making, paper pop-up engineering, and more. Share your progress with other 365-ers at www.MakeSomething365.com. With 365: A Daily Creativity Journal you’ll get charged up, get messy, and get inspired, and you’ll see how making something every day can change your creative process—and change your life forever!
We use to have a word that is really not politically correct for Massachusetts Drivers...cause you know we were the elite New Hampshire drivers...but I won't print it here...lol Love the 365 Daily Creative Journal...mainly because it looks like a composition book and I'm such a sucker for them! Just wanted to say THANK YOU for my fabulous Christmas giveway from Craftside and Windham fabrics...all the deliveries have arrived! I blogged about it all here: http://con-tain-it.typepad.com/my_weblog/2011/01/craftside-holiday-goodness-giveaway

Looking inside this book was extremely interesting and useful for me. Immediately it sparked some ideas that I wasn't consciously considering for project that I'm working on.
Great web links and website as well.
