How is this fine Monday treating you?

Good, I hope.

I had a wild couple of days. I hobnobbed with the govern-ator (well actually, I just heard him speak at an event I attended). See some pictures here.

 

And it was the annual Set Decorator Society of America's big event. It was held on the newly rebuilt back lot at Universal (it had a big fire). Lots of the rental houses have booths there to connect with decorators, designers and prop people.

 

These cool props were from Global Effects Inc. in North Hollywood. The guys there seem to really have fun!

These little aliens... uh, I mean kids, were so cute!

Very old cool shadow photo and a very new one

On the cusp of the new year, I am looking forward to all it holds and I am also remembering the past.

Way back when I first moved out to Los Angeles I was a set decorator on kids' TV shows. This is the crew on a location scout for either V.R. Troopers or Beetleborgs. Yup that is me second from the left. Little dresses and combat boots, my wardrobe hasn't changed a bit! But aren't our shadows cool?

I have reconnected with a bunch of the people in this photo on Facebook and it's been fun to catch up.

This is a photo I took a few days ago outside of the Burbank library. There is a little silhouette of a bunny spray painted on the trash can. I don't know the significance of it, but I like it. I incorporated my shadow in my photo. I liked to correlation between the blackness of the bunny stencil and my shadow.

Angela Cartwright's art and photography is
exhibited and collected internationally. Her
unique techniques are explored in her book Mixed
Emulsions. Known for her acting roles in Make Room
for Daddy, The Sound of Music, and Lost In Space, she
curates A Studio Gallery in Los Angeles, California
where she makes her home and garden.

Sarah Fishburn (Ft. Collins, CO) describes her work as
mixed-media narrative. Her art has been featured in
numerous magazines and a shelf full of books.

 

Photographing your shadow and then using it in your mixed media art

Angela Cartwright is really into photographing her shadow.

 

This is one of her pages from her garden journal.

As I was photographing the recycled fabric scarf I sewed I realized the cool shape my shadow was making and I started to do a few photos specifically to include it.
