I bet you have no idea what's coming your way with a title like that!
Well, combine a fabulous book:
Hooking Mats and Rugs: 33 New Designs From An Old Tradition
33 New Designs From An Old Tradition
By
Deanne Fitzpatrick
and two sentences inside that say:
"There are absolutely no rules about what kind of materials you can hook into a rug. If you can cut it into a strip, you can hook it on to a backing."
with a beautiful Old Rose Oval traditional design:
with my upcycling brain and this is what you get!
How I did it:
I cut strips from an old felted sweater about 3/8 inch wide.
I then hooked the loops into the sweater stitches centered on the lower back.
(Hence the tramp-stamp term)
I used a US size I 9 crochet hook. The sweater I was hooking into was not felted and was about 4 stitches to the inch.
So there you have it! Thanks for coming along on my crafting trip. I think I will be continuing down this path. Next I am going to try denim. Anyone out there hooking anything unusual? Leave a comment telling us all about it!
